Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ review | Auto Live
The G580 with EQ Technology is Mercedes-Benz’s fully electric take on the legendary G-Wagen, marrying brutal off-road pedigree with EV power. It uses four electric motors (one at each wheel) generating ~579 hp and a colossal ~1,164 Nm of torque. A 116 kWh battery delivers a WLTP-rated range of about 473 km, and fast charging (DC - 200 kW) brings the battery from 10-80% in roughly 30 minutes. The EV retains the boxy, rugged DNA of the G-Class, but adds new off-road helpers: torque vectoring, G-Steering, and “G-Turn” (spin in place like a tank). Inside, it’s luxurious with modern MBUX displays, premium leather, ambient lighting, and a sound-synthesized “G-Roar” to offset the silence. Despite its bulk (≈3.8 tonnes), the instant torque gives it surprising agility, though city tight maneuvers still highlight its size. It’s a statement vehicle—expensive, extreme, and unlike anything else in the electric SUV space.
